I am an astute revenue specialist, an entrepreneur and a strategist. I am a sales & marketing professional with over 14 years of sales experience in the newspapers, magazines, radio, television, events management, non-government sector and ICT industries. In my roles as a manager & leader of teams, I gained solid corporate experience and know-how in the areas of strategy development, project management, product development & innovation, customer relationship management, key accounts management, business development, risk management, finance, revenue management, people management, trade marketing, promotions, market intelligence analysis and competitor analysis.

Of the 14 years in my working career, 9 years spent in management and 8 of these in senior management positions. I left South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) in the first quarter of 2009 after serving three (3) years between 2006 and 2009 as Head of National Sales & Sponsorships of sport programmes. My latest contractual assignment involved the setting up and development of a new Sales & Distribution division at ArionBomema Technologies, a start-up business emerged as a result of South Africa Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) migration.

I began my career in the mid 90’s as a sales representative and subsequently Advertising Manager for Radio Tuks, a campus/ community radio station for the University of Pretoria while studying towards my junior and senior degrees between 1995 and 1998. I was instrumental and played a significant role in securing a 4 year temporary broadcasting license for the station in 1997. Before joining SABC, I was Group Executive responsible for business development, sales & marketing at Mafube Publishing between 2004 and 2006 after being promoted within the same company from Deputy Advertising Manager. Prior to pursuing my career with Mafube publishing I was Senior Group Sales Manager at TCH Visual Communications between 2002 and 2003. I spent five years at RCP Media, a division of Naspers Media Limited between 1999 and 2003, occupying various roles including being a sales representative for various newspapers and became a Senior Sales Manager responsible for City Press business in Gauteng. While at RCP Media I was deployed and played an instrumental role in launching what is the arguably the first tabloid newspaper in South Africa, Sunday Sun, alongside the founding Editor in July 2001. I had a six-month stint as Sales Executive at Caxton Magazine in 2000 from where I was head-hunted by Media 24.

Apart from my corporate and business activities, I am also a community builder and contributor. In 1996 I pioneered the establishment of Seidet Student Project (SEISPRO), a student project in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga Province, a sub-project of the Siyabuswa Education Improvement & Development Trust (SEIDET) in partnership with the University of Pretoria. Subsequent to the establishment of SEISPRO, I was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the mother body, SEIDET, in 2002 responsible for Fundraising & Marketing. For me, this was a way of ploughing back to the community that has built the person that I am today. I taught winter school classes between 2006 and 2007 during school recess as part of adding value to education in my community and helping students at grade 10 to 12 to catch up with their syllabus. I’m currently the Chairperson of the Black Management Forum (BMF) – Johannesburg Branch; I serve on the Gauteng Province Management Committee of the BMF, on the Editorial Board of BMF Publication (African Leader) and served on the Board of Trustees of Siyabuswa Education Improvement & Development Trust between 2002 and 2007 and the Board of Directors of IsiNdebele Lexicography Unit under Pan South African Language Board between 2007 and 2010. My career achievements, in my short working spell, qualify me a true leader and a dedicated individual who reflect business acumen and creative flair.

I was awarded BMF Gauteng Manager of the year in 2006 and awarded Employee of the Year for two consecutive years in 2002 and 2003 by Sowetan/Hollard Achievers Club. I received numerous awards and accolades in my sales & marketing profession by the companies i worked for. I have been head-hunted twice and promoted three times in my 14-year working career.

I obtained my Masters degree in Labour Relations Management from the University of Pretoria completed in 2002. I have a B.Admin degree in Public Administration and an Honours degree in Public Management also from the University of Pretoria. I obtained my Finance for Non-Financial Managers with Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) in 2007. I also hold numerous certificate programmes including Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management from the University of South Africa, Marketing Management and Research, Basic Principles of advertising, Basic Radio Marketing and the creative use of media.
